OFF SHORE DIVE
Dive the D. João de Castro Bank – A Unique Volcano Dive in the Heart of the Blue
This is not just a dive – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, only for experienced divers.
Experience one of the most extraordinary dives in the Azores: a rare opportunity to explore an active underwater volcano, rising from the deep ocean floor to just 13 meters below the surface. Located 35 nautical miles offshore, this isolated seamount offers a surreal dive in the open blue, where the dramatic volcanic landscape meets the possibility of encountering majestic giants of the sea, like the magnificent Devil Ray.
How we do it:
We depart from our base in Praia da Vitória – Terceira Island, between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. The journey to D. João de Castro Bank takes at least 2.5 hours by boat. Upon arrival, our team check the conditions and sets up the dives, which are conducted along a descent line due to the strong ocean currents.
ATTENTION: Drifting away from the descent line can quickly leave you suspended in the open blue, far from the boat and the dive site. For this reason, divers are only allowed to leave the line with explicit permission from our guides.
The program includes two dives, with a relaxing surface interval and light meal onboard. Group sizes are limited (max. 6 divers) to ensure safety and a great moments
This is a lifetime experience, not only a dive!!!
Requirements:
Advanced Open Water certification and a minimum of 50 logged dives
Active diver (refresh course required after inactivity)
Medical clearance for pre-existing conditions
